Fun Information: Kuan-Yin depicts the Buddhist deity Kuan-Yin in a white gown standing gracefully upon a lotus platform. Kuan-Yin, also referred to as Guan Yin or Kwan Yin, is worshiped as the Goddess of Mercy in Buddhism. As a bodhisattva, she stands for compassion, unconditional love, and forgiveness. As such, she is a tremendously popular goddess amongst Asian cultures. Her name converts literally to “Hearing the Cries of the World” acting as an overseer, protecting mankind. Kuan-Yin is considered the embodiment of sympathy and compassion. She is a mother-goddess, patron of seamen and mothers. As such, the Chinese viewed her in an all-female figure around the 12th century.
