Fun Information: This Bastet Jeweled Box is in the shape of the Egyptian deity, Bastet or Bast. She was married to Ptah, the descendant of the sun god Ra, and mother of Mihos. Fascinatingly, Bastet was an ancient Egyptian goddess who is still worshiped by many today. Her adoration began in the northern Egyptian town of Bubastis around the year 3200 BC during the age of the second dynasty. There, and in numerous other early cities, Egyptians celebrated with tremendous glee and enthusiasm Bastet’s feast day on October 31st in order to pay tribute their protector, their goddess. Bastet, related to the Night Goddess, Neith, also symbolized the moon in its role in making women fertile. She was also the Egyptian Goddess of dance, music, delight, and jubilation. She was the patron of children, domestic cats, and women. Further, she was connected to the Eye of Ra and served as the instrument of the Sun God's wrath.
