Fun Information: The West Highland Terrier is known as "Westie" for short. This particular dog has a bright white coat that should be kept maintained through regular grooming and proper nutrition. Their bright white coat is legendary. Colonel E.D. Malcolm of Scotland, developed the breed. The Westie originated from Poltalloch, Scotland and was bred to control the population of rats, fox, badger, otter and other vermin. Westies are known diggers. Since they were breed to hunt, they would chase the prey and times follow them to their hole. The breed would then dig a hole to catch the prey. Westies need a lot attention and daily exercise to keep their energetic spirit alive. The American Kennel Club recognized the breed in 1908.
