Fun Information: The Chihuahua is the smallest of all dog breeds weighting under 6 pounds. They are infamous dogs known for having attitudes in a compact body. They were first discovered in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. They were used for sacred rituals among the Indian tribes of Mexico. The upper class in Mexico kept them as pets. The most famous Chihuahua was Gidget, who played "The Taco Bell Chihuahua" was seen on Taco Bell ads that ran from 1997 - 2000. Gidget became an icon as well as her phrases in the commercials. "Yo quiero Taco Bell", meant "I want Taco Bell", became popular phrases in pop culture. Taco Bell was sued by the two Michigan men who came up with the idea years earlier and were turned away by Taco Bell. The ads stopped airing after many Hispanic groups started protesting against the stereotypical commercial, but many believe it ended because the dog died. The American Kennel Club first recognized the breed in 1904.
